Materials List

Cheesecloth 1 package (makes 2 ghosts)
Heavy wire or coat hanger
Black felt for eyes
9” Styrofoam cone
Aluminum foil
Plastic wrap
Plastic storage bag
Fabric Glue Stick

Scissors
Fabric Stiffener
For Pumpkin:
2” Styrofoam ball
12” Orange twist paper ribbon
4” Green twist paper ribbon
Awl with protective sheath
Purchased chain

Instructions
1. Bend wire to form head and arm shapes. Position arms by bringing them forward and bending one higher than the other. Connect base of wire shape to top of Styrofoam cone. Wrap the arms and head with aluminum foil to give them shape. (see Figure A) Drape a piece of plastic wrap over form so cheesecloth will not stick to foil when it is dry. Place a large piece of aluminum foil or plastic wrap on a table and position ghost form in the center.

2.

Pour some stiffener into plastic bag.

3. Cut a 6” square of cheesecloth and place in bag of stiffener. Squeeze bag until cheesecloth is fully saturated.

4. To remove cheesecloth, squeeze out excess stiffener. Pull cheesecloth out of bag.

5. Place this piece on the head. This will provide more shape for the head.

6. To form Ghost: Unfold 1 yard of cheesecloth and place in bag of stiffener. Squeeze bag until cheesecloth is fully saturated. Remove cheesecloth as in step 4. Center cheesecloth over form. Leave a small opening for hands. Below hands, bring the cheesecloth together and arrange the cheesecloth around the base. If desired, drape another layer of cheesecloth over the base.

7. Let ghost dry until hard.

8. When dry; carefully remove hardened cheesecloth from form. If plastic wrap sticks to cheesecloth, remove it.

9. Cut small oval eyes from black felt. Glue in place.

How to make Pumpkin:
1. Flatten bottom and top of Styrofoam ball by pressing down with palm of hands. Poke a hole in top of pumpkin with awl.

2. Untwist orange paper ribbon. Apply glue along both edges of ribbon. Set ball in center of ribbon with hole on top. Bring ends up around ball. Pull paper around sides and press into position. Tuck excess under pumpkin and glue. Gather paper together at top and trim off excess. With awl in sheath, poke excess into the hole.

3. Cut 2” of green twist paper ribbon and untwist. Cut a small leaf base for stem. Glue to top of pumpkin. Poke hole in center. Place a 1” piece of green twisted paper ribbon in the hole for a stem. Glue to base of ghost.

4. Drape a chain or rope over arms of ghost.
